Hello Friends!
A few weeks ago I first posted about Cambodia on the blog.
It was an undercover post, one mostly so I could just see it in print. :)
But now we are excited to officially announce that May 21- June 4 we will be traveling to Cambodia.
We will be spending our time in Phnom Penh and Pursat, Cambodia. We are so excited to be given this opportunity to go across the world and minister in this country.
"Why Cambodia?" Well Cambodia is a country that has experienced genocide, oppression, hardship and poverty over many generations. Much of their culture and sense of family life was wiped out during the reign of the Khmer Rouge in the 70's and 80's. They are still suffering the effects of this terrible history.
Here is a little bit about what we will be doing there:
1. Preaching the Gospel.
On the trip to Cambodia last year, the gospel was preached in villages in the province of Pursat.
It was an amazing outreach with people giving their lives to Jesus. Since that time a church has started with 73 people and 21 baptisms.
The team left an audio bible in the native Khmer language with Pastor Sophun.
Our goal this year is to continue that good work, bring more solar-powered audio bibles, and also provide some discipleship materials to the new believers so the gospel can continue to spread.
2. The Life Center
Our host ministry is the Life Center located in Phnom Penh. It is an orphanage & school for children. We will be able to spend a week at the life center spending time & ministering to the children & staff there. Our goal is to provide them with art supplies, dvds and christian music. The Life Center has also requested we bring 2 water filters for them.
You can read more about The Life Center and what they do there by visiting their website: http://www.eaipower.org/
3. Clean Water.
A common practice in the villages we will be visiting is to use buckets to catch rainwater for drinking water. They will wait for the dirt to settle to the bottom of the bucket and then they skim the top of the water and put it into bottles.
Our goal while we are in Cambodia is to provide the bucket adapter water filters to the villages we minister in.
4. Anti-trafficking education.
Cambodia is a country that is full of poverty. Most Cambodians live on $1-$2 per day.
This kind of poverty opens their people up to the pitfalls of human trafficking.
While we are in the villages in Pursat we will provide anti-trafficking materials and education.
We truly believe that this is a call that God has placed on our lives and we want to be obedient and answer that call! We are very excited to see what God is going to do in the lives of the people of Cambodia!
As you can imagine, this trip is very intense and expensive.
If you are interested in supporting us in any way, here are a few things you can do:
1. Please pray for this trip and for our family. Please pray for safety, for our children, our trip and of course for the people we will be meeting in Cambodia. Please pray they would meet Jesus in a way that will transform their lives and their country!
2. We would be so grateful if you would pray about financially supporting this trip in any way. Every penny will help and you will have a hand in sowing Christ's Love into the country of Cambodia.
